Do We Need a Thumbs Down Option on Medium?
How handy would it be to have a thumbs down option on Medium? I’ve had several occasions when I wish I had one.
Rude and insensitive comments are the main reasons. There’s often a clue when the comment is not preceded by a clap.
To block or not to block, that is a good question. Whether it is nobler to mute or move on?
I assume people are not ignorant by choice. In those situations, rather than immediately go with a block, using a thumbs down might be more appropriate.
Blatant racism or bigotry is an automatic block for me. If the intent is clear, I don’t hesitate.
Reading an article and not clapping could signal laziness or indifference. A view is either an intentional exit or too short of a stay.
A thumbs down, on the other hand, leaves no doubt that you felt some degree of disagreement with the writer.
